It has been another busy month at the school. We have had student leadership elections, spirit day, thanksgiving activities, our virtue assembly, an amazing fine art performance, professional development day for teachers, and our Halloween activities.
Thank you to our School Council for covering the cost of our fine arts performance and thank you to Miss Christensen and the grade six students for organizing and running the Halloween activities.
Things to be aware of for this month include inline skating for the first week of November. This is a great opportunity for our students to experience inline skating and to be instructed by a professional. All equipment is provided and grade 1-6 students will get four lessons and kindergarten will receive two. Our Remembrance Day ceremonies are at 9:45 November 7th for division 2 and 11:00 for division 1. School Council November 18th at 7:00 p.m. Report cards go home on November 22nd. Our book fair will be running for the week of November 25th – 28th.
Carseland School will be doing student-led conferences again. Just a reminder that a student led conference is an informal interview, which takes the place of the traditional parent-teacher interview. Student-led conferences involve having the student lead their parents through a variety of centres, which showcase some of the work that has been accomplished in the most recent reporting period. There are usually 3 or 4 groups in the classroom at one time and the student leads the conference. The teacher acts as a facilitator. Please call the school to schedule your conference. The times are Wednesday, November 27th and Thursday, November 28th from 3:45-6:45 p.m.
Our Learner Profile (Report cards) has two parts; one part is the actual paper copy that will be sent home by the school at report card time. This document will include a nonacademic section called the Characteristics of a Successful Learner and an academic section to show how your child is doing in each subject and focus area (subject unit or topic). The second part is a parent portal where you can access online information, at any time, to see a more in-depth view of how your child is doing on the specific curriculum outcomes. In order to enter this online area the school requires an email address from you (if we do not already have one). Once the school has your email address you can self-register. There is a step by step guide on how to do this on our webpage under the parent portal link or follow this link
http://saparent.myghsd.ca/ . The school will be sending reminders out to parents if we do not have your email address.
Have a great month!
