On Friday, January 31st, while students had the day off, teachers were busy at the University of Calgary working together on improving student learning. The teachers worked with the Critical Thinking Consortium on using critical thinking in the classroom to enhance student engagement and deeper thinking. We also discussed our plan on implementing destination imagination. We will be starting this project in February.
Please note that there are numerous school fees still outstanding. This money is extremely important to the operation of our small school. These fees are used for the basic instructional materials for our students. Please make arrangements to have these paid as soon as possible. Please contact Lynn if you need to set up a payment plan.
By now some of you have received the parent survey from Alberta Education. Alberta Education sends out a survey to be completed by parents of students in grades 4,5 and 6 as well as students & teachers. Please complete this survey and return it as it helps measure the quality of your child’s education in our school and your feedback is important to Carseland School. Survey results will be available to jurisdictions in May 2014, and will be reported publicly by jurisdictions as part of their 3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports. Please let them know how great our school is.
There will be a Valentines Karaoke/Dance on February 13 from 6-8 at the school for our students. This year we have expanded the ski trip to include more students. The grades 3 to 6 classes will be going skiing on February 28th. More information about the ski trip will be sent home in the Red Folders. Carseland School will be holding our own Winter Olympics on February 18th. Our school will also be putting a lip sync video together this month to show case our school and it should be a lot of fun.
Kindergarten registration will start on February 1st and be ongoing. Please contact the school if you have any questions about the program 403-934-4161.
A special thank you goes out to Dynagra who donated two iPad minis to our grade 1 and 2 classrooms.
Our virtue for the month is kindness. Take care and have a great month!
